Merkur 34c HD Safety Razor is a two-piece double-edge razor made in Solingen, Germany, built around a solid brass handle and a die-cast zinc head, both finished in bright chrome.
The head is fixed rather than adjustable, so there's nothing to dial in, just load a blade and go. It's a closed comb design with a straight safety bar, and it shaves mild enough that it's regularly recommended as a first razor, while still being effective enough that plenty of experienced shavers keep using it daily.
At around 78g, the razor has real heft in hand, and that weight does most of the work, there's no need to press down to get a close shave. The handle has a cross hatch knurled grip that stays secure even when wet.
It comes with one Merkur Super Platinum blade in the box, so it's ready to shave with as soon as it arrives, and replacement blades are inexpensive and easy to find once that one runs out.

How to Use
- Unscrew the base to separate the two-piece head and slot in a fresh blade
- Keep the razor close to a 30 degree angle against the skin
- Let the head's own weight guide the cut rather than pushing down on the stroke
- Work in short, low pressure strokes and rinse the blade as it loads up
- Shake off and dry the head fully once you're done to protect the blade edge

For a perfectly smooth shave
Such a review is, of course, always subjective. What works for one person might not work for another. Personally, this 34C combined with Feather razor blades works like a dream for me—no irritation and baby-smooth skin. I should’ve done this sooner.

The real King of Razors
The Merkur 34c feels great to shave with and works very well with Feather razor blades. Very easy to swap blades. Highly recommended.

Not as good as claimed
I have been using a double edged razor for the past 4 years. The build quality of this unit is great but the handle is a little short in my opinion. i was using a cheap generic local barbers branded razor up to this and had great success with Astra Platinum blades but cannot get anywhere as close a shave with this razor using the same blades, maybe im doing something wrong its a good price and good build quality maybe i need to change the blades

Great little Razor
I've been using this Razor for just over a week now and have to say I love it, I'd heard many good reviews and it lives up to them. Some people feel the handle is too short I really like it actually but it's personal preference.I have fairly sensitive skin and this Razor is very forgiving yet still gives a really close shave, all in all a great buy.

Top quality for a great price
It’s my first time using a safety razor, but I know quality when I see it and this really has impressed me. I will never use disposable razors ever again after using this. For my first time even using a safety razor I was surprised at how easy I was able to utilize it!

Comfortable shave and adaptable to beard type/length
I have used the razor for the last month now and I am thrilled with the performance. Great for one day's growth or 5 day's growth, handling both with consummate ease. The build quality is also top drawer. I really should have bought this razor a lot sooner as an option in my den.

Excellent
Well made, easy to use and not too aggressive for beginner. Was worried about the short handle before I bought it but it is fine. I hold it near the head anyway.
