Merkur 34c HD Safety Razor is a two-piece double-edge razor made in Solingen, Germany, built around a solid brass handle and a die-cast zinc head, both finished in bright chrome.
The head is fixed rather than adjustable, so there's nothing to dial in, just load a blade and go. It's a closed comb design with a straight safety bar, and it shaves mild enough that it's regularly recommended as a first razor, while still being effective enough that plenty of experienced shavers keep using it daily.
At around 78g, the razor has real heft in hand, and that weight does most of the work, there's no need to press down to get a close shave. The handle has a cross hatch knurled grip that stays secure even when wet.
It comes with one Merkur Super Platinum blade in the box, so it's ready to shave with as soon as it arrives, and replacement blades are inexpensive and easy to find once that one runs out.

How to Use
- Unscrew the base to separate the two-piece head and slot in a fresh blade
- Keep the razor close to a 30 degree angle against the skin
- Let the head's own weight guide the cut rather than pushing down on the stroke
- Work in short, low pressure strokes and rinse the blade as it loads up
- Shake off and dry the head fully once you're done to protect the blade edge

Best things are simple
This razor is a masterpiece. Perfectly designed and it is a pleasure to use. Just the right size and weight and it does what it promises.

Excellent quality and price
One of the best quality / price ratios. The razor has an excellent finish and the cutting head is very precise. Allows to reach difficult areas. Slightly more aggressive than the Feather AS D-2.

Nearly perfect
Fabulous shave, ideal weight and balance. One star removed because of the handle, which as one of the other reviewers has noted is slightly too short. If this could be extended while retaining the existing qualities I suspect it would be nearly impossible to better.

Great Razor
I have been using this for over a week now. Most impressed. I prefer this to the DE89 which i have been using for a few months. Both great razors but the 34c just has the edge for me. The smaller head makes it easier to do under the nose.

This razor is very good for a begginer. For me it works best with feather blades.

First Razor
Good little razor,but having used it over the last few months I find it a little bit small.My hand cramps up a little bit sometimes.Will be going for something a little longer next time

Return to the DE
Having wandered from the DE safety razor 20 years ago for the convenience of cartridge multi bladed razors, I decided to go back to the old single blade. Having read the reviews on this site I took the plunge and purchased the 34c HD as an early Christmas present yo myself. I was instantly impressed with the weight and the quality of the grip. I was transported back to when I first started shaving with my fathers DE safety razor which was an aggressive stainless steel weapon of a thing. This razor is not too aggressive so is good for beginners and advanced users alike. I had ordered the razor on the Saturday and had it in my hand on the Wednesday! Great service!

This is a perfect quality DE razor. Easy to clean and change blades. Feel good in the hand and it comes with a Merkur blade.
