Merkur 34c HD Safety Razor is a two-piece double-edge razor made in Solingen, Germany, built around a solid brass handle and a die-cast zinc head, both finished in bright chrome.
The head is fixed rather than adjustable, so there's nothing to dial in, just load a blade and go. It's a closed comb design with a straight safety bar, and it shaves mild enough that it's regularly recommended as a first razor, while still being effective enough that plenty of experienced shavers keep using it daily.
At around 78g, the razor has real heft in hand, and that weight does most of the work, there's no need to press down to get a close shave. The handle has a cross hatch knurled grip that stays secure even when wet.
It comes with one Merkur Super Platinum blade in the box, so it's ready to shave with as soon as it arrives, and replacement blades are inexpensive and easy to find once that one runs out.

How to Use
- Unscrew the base to separate the two-piece head and slot in a fresh blade
- Keep the razor close to a 30 degree angle against the skin
- Let the head's own weight guide the cut rather than pushing down on the stroke
- Work in short, low pressure strokes and rinse the blade as it loads up
- Shake off and dry the head fully once you're done to protect the blade edge

The perfect safety razor
The Merkur 34c HD razor gives a perfect shave and is easy to clean. I have a Gillette Mach 3 with unused blades but being so pleased with the Merkur I will not use the Mach again. Too me a good shave therapeutic, and I now shave more often and enjoy it.

Fantastic result
I too was fed up paying silly prices for replacement blades from my Gillette so I decided to give this a try. After a little bit of practice I soon got the feel for this razor. The quality of the shave is the without a doubt the best I have ever experienced. Until you have tried it you won't know what you are missing.

I used a mach 3 for 12 years and hated shaving. I purchased this last month after reading a load of good reviews and it didn't disappoint. The razor gives a great shave. Very close with a feather blade. Shaving is no longer a chore. I love it....

Goodbye cartridge razors!!
After realising that the multiblade cartridge razors, 'in my opinion' quality has slipped recently together with the ever increasing price, it was time for action. After a friend recommended trying a traditional DE razor and shave and watching numerous videos on the net it was time to act. Recommended to me by my experienced wetshaving friend was this product 'Merkur 34c'. Simply down to the fact that it is well made, competitively priced and an excellent razor to start DE shaving with i.e not too aggressive. The item came by post as stated promptly with sound packaging along with other shaving items purchased. The razor comes with one Merkur blade to get you started, so might be an option to purchase other blades for convenience. After using the razor and various different blades along with pre/post shaving cream and shaving soap with lather created with badger brush I am hooked and am loving the BBS feel. Goodbye to burns, rashes, cuts and ingrowing hairs. Can now shave every 2 days with a blade lasting 3 shaves comfortable. My skin feels as good now as ever. Don't be afraid of it, try it take your time, persevere and you wont regret it.

A quality razor
Have this about a year now and no regrets. Nice and weighty, rinses easily, easy to change blades. Its my first DE razor but I don't see a need to change it!
