Merkur 34c HD Safety Razor is a two-piece double-edge razor made in Solingen, Germany, built around a solid brass handle and a die-cast zinc head, both finished in bright chrome.
The head is fixed rather than adjustable, so there's nothing to dial in, just load a blade and go. It's a closed comb design with a straight safety bar, and it shaves mild enough that it's regularly recommended as a first razor, while still being effective enough that plenty of experienced shavers keep using it daily.
At around 78g, the razor has real heft in hand, and that weight does most of the work, there's no need to press down to get a close shave. The handle has a cross hatch knurled grip that stays secure even when wet.
It comes with one Merkur Super Platinum blade in the box, so it's ready to shave with as soon as it arrives, and replacement blades are inexpensive and easy to find once that one runs out.

How to Use
- Unscrew the base to separate the two-piece head and slot in a fresh blade
- Keep the razor close to a 30 degree angle against the skin
- Let the head's own weight guide the cut rather than pushing down on the stroke
- Work in short, low pressure strokes and rinse the blade as it loads up
- Shake off and dry the head fully once you're done to protect the blade edge

As I wished
I was a user of a Mach3 but with Merkur 34C we are on another planet. The 34c is precise and very stable, just aggressive. I have tried the Merkur blade but now I want to see what happens with Personnas and Feathers that I bought. Shaving is perfect in service and very speed in delivery.

Merkur 34c
This is a bit of a revelation for me, having used cartridge razors for the past 25 years or so. Found it relatively easy to learn to shave with, and by using pre-shave was able to avoid any nicks. Love the feel of the hot steel head against my skin - something you don't get with a cartridge razor.

Great Grip
Was my first proper DE razor after having a cheap plastic one, head on razor I would rate as aggressive and quite a steep learning curve. Handle is fantastic and you never lose grip even with wet hands. Would recommend for experienced users.

Good Design
This razor is not aggressive, at least with Merkur blade (not yet tested other blades), attention: it is not mild, is located in the middle.

Excelente razor
Excellent Merkur razor, with an industrial style that makes it perfect for beginners classic shaving. The razor wil last for many years. Shaving.ie perfect as always in communication, service and speed.

Smooth as silk
This is one of my favourites. I love the Old Gillette’s which are gentle and smooth but this is as good in its own slightly more aggressive way. If you are a new DE shaver it is dead easy to get the angle right with the 34c. If you have DE'd for a while, well you probably have this razor anyway! Recommended for all and built to last.

Good for beginner
Yes this is my first de razor. It has been a very good experience. Before I always used mach3 and had razor burn when I used it.
