Semogue 820 Black is a 22mm boar brush in a glossy black acrylic handle, and the size most people find they get on with best.
The knot is wide enough to cover the face quickly and tall enough to splay properly under pressure, so it works as happily whipping a cream in a bowl as it does working a hard soap into the beard. Move up from a narrower Semogue boar and you'll notice the extra coverage straight away.
There is more flex at the tips than Semogue's smaller boar knots have, which makes it feel gentler on the face and more forgiving while you're still working out how much water a boar knot wants. It keeps plenty of backbone underneath, so hard soaps still get worked properly rather than just polished.
The handle shrugs off repeated use, won't crack as it dries, and needs nothing beyond a rinse to keep it looking right.

How to Use
- Soak the knot in warm water while the shower runs
- Shake the brush out sharply once or twice before loading
- Take a full load from the soap, working in wide circles
- Build the lather on the face and thin it with water until it turns slick
- Rinse the knot right through to the base and dry it bristles down
