Muhle R 41 Open Comb Safety Razor

I've been using a EJ DE89 since I started DE shaving last June. Since the price was so good here I ordered the R41. It definitely is more aggressive...but boy does it do a good job. I need to get a heavier handle, but love the result. Just pay attention and you'll be amazed how smooth your face will feel. Combine with Trumpers skin food... A++

I started with a much milder 23c and came to the point where I needed to try something more aggressive. I did my research and chose the r41. First few shaves I got some irritation due to ATG passes trying for the perfect shave but after a week and using lighter strokes and a good angle I can get a super close shave with this razor. You can definitely feel the razor blade on your face but I've only got one weeper after 20 shaves and that was just under my nose. I don't use it everyday but I probably could if I did just one pass plus touch ups since it cuts so effectively. Bonus to this order was the lowest price I've found on the web. This razor absolutely elevated my shave to the next level. Its super aggressive which makes me use a light touch. The light pressure has allowed me to eliminate my remaining irritation. Beware, if you do not exercise caution when using this razor it will punish you.

40 days ago I was shaving with a Gillette Fusion 5+1 blades (very expensive and good but not excellent shaving). I decide to to try with classic shaving and I bought a Muhle R89: the result was astonishing. I spent a month improving my technique and learning more about DE shaving. Last week I ordered a R41 and today I've had my first shaving with it: an incredibly wonderful and awesome BSS shaving. Since now: my first razor. Sure!

I heard a lot about the R41 over the last few weeks. It is surely the most talked about razor on the market at the moment and there are some very contrasting reviews. Some say it's the best razor ever while some say it's a piranha waiting to bite. Well, curiosity certainly started to bite away at me over the last few days. I took my time to make a decision, I read every scrap of information on it, finally I pressed the button, and here it is today in my hand, rather promptly thanks to Shaving.ie. Firstly, it looks amazing and it feels like pure quality. I couldn't keep my eyes off it until I loaded it with an Astra SP, then it looked like a natural born killer! I hit the shower, prepped up and scrubbed up and I could see it waiting by the sink through the foggy shower unit perspex. I couldn't help thinking 'What if this goes wrong, I'm only DE shaving since December". I stood in front of the sink and lathered up and I applied Proraso green using my new Semogue 830 Boar. I took a deep breath. This was it, I was ready. I began my first WTG pass, slowly and with extreme caution. This beast was loud and I knew there was a sharp blade against my skin during every second of the shave. I finished the first pass in absolute amazement for I had no nicks, cuts or burn and I was left with a BSS! Surely I was dreaming? One pass BSS? Ok, I did a little touch up under my chin but that was it. I never before had a shave this close. I have been using an EJ DE89L and while it is superb, you do need three passes and a sharp blade to get a BSS but the Mühle R41 is definitely closer and takes less time. I feel now that this is the razor for me. It an amazing piece of engineering by Mühle. I am so glad I bought it now. Listening to all the talk I felt it would be a challenge and I feel every man should have one! I will carry this around with me for the rest of the day to show people, the greatest razor in the world today, minus the blade of course!

I looking for a closer shave than the closed comb DE razor I have been using for over a year now. I was told the R41 was quite an aggressive razor. I bought the R41 and I am delighted with it. It is more aggressive but shaves so closely with such ease its actually easier on your face and your skin. It has taken DE razor shaving to another level for me. Pity I waited so long!!

This is the best safety razor I've used so far. No pulling or tugging! Even the blades used in this open comb razor suddenly appear to be sharper than hitherto, i.e. when used in a closed comb safety razor. The R41 gives a very forgiving, yet close shave. Works well with Astra Superior Platinum and Personna blades.

Razor has nice light feel and gives quite a forgiving shave, one of my favourite razors so far was pleasantly surprised as heard open comb can be quite aggressive. Handle grip wouldn’t be as good as the Merkur 34C HD even with the etched handle.

I only have five weeks of DE shaving and consider the FatBoy/Slim with number 9 and the SlantBar are toys. Attention because Muhle R41 (2011) is not a toy!
