Pasta del Capitano 1905 Original Recipe Toothpaste is the formula that started it all, developed by Clemente Ciccarelli, a captain in the Royal Italian Army and doctor of pharmaceutical chemistry, in his family pharmacy in 1905. Its distinctive flavour of clove leaves, spearmint and cinnamon has barely changed since, and remains one of the most recognisable tastes in Italian oral care.
The modern version keeps that historic character while updating the formula with Sulfetal ZN, the brand's patented zinc-based molecule, and certified organic mint. It is free from sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, parabens and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, so the century-old flavour comes with an ingredient list that holds up to current standards.
Production has been based in Milan since 1950, still run by the Ciccarelli family, and this Original Recipe remains the benchmark against which the rest of the Pasta del Capitano range is measured.
