Semogue 1305 Shaving Brush

Semogue 1305 Shaving Brush is a pure boar bristle brush from Semogue's Hereditas range, in the brand's signature green and ivory handle. It's one of the most recognisable shapes in wet shaving, and a natural first boar brush if you're coming from synthetic or badger.

Boar bristle is known for improving with age: the more you shave with it, the softer and more refined the knot becomes, while it never loses the backbone that makes it so good at exfoliating and working hard soaps into a proper lather. A few weeks of daily use is all it takes to settle in, and from there it just keeps getting better.

The knot is graded Premium IB: pure boar, with a dark band running through it that gives it the two-tone look of badger hair without the badger price.

Lacquered beech gives the handle its shine and stands up well over time. At 114mm overall with a 22mm knot, it's a proper full-size brush that sits comfortably in the hand.

How to Use

• Stand the knot in warm water for a couple of minutes before the first few shaves
• Shake out the excess so the brush is damp rather than dripping
• Load straight from the soap in small circles until the bristles are coated
• Build the lather on the face, adding water a few drops at a time
• Rinse the knot clean and leave it standing bristles down to dry
