Semogue Owners Club Boar Ash Wood Shaving Brush

Semogue Owners Club Boar Ash Wood Shaving Brush is the pale-handled version of the Owners Club boar, a 24mm knot in turned ash.

Ash has a straight, open grain and takes very little colour, so every handle shows its figure differently and the natural matte finish stays pale rather than deepening with age. It's a tough, springy timber, which is why it's been used for tool handles for centuries and stands up to a lifetime of use.

The bristle is Selected Premium, the highest boar grade in the range, sorted for length and left largely uncut so the tips keep their natural taper. It's a knot that keeps getting better: the more it's used, the softer it feels, while the backbone that makes a 24mm knot so capable never goes away.

A knot this size builds real backbone once it's settled in, and holds enough lather that reloading partway through a shave is rarely necessary.

How to Use

• Give the knot a long warm soak before each of the first several shaves
• Press out the surplus water against the rim of a bowl
• Work the bristles into the soap until the knot is loaded through
• Build on the face, adding water in small amounts to open the lather up
• Rinse thoroughly, then wipe the handle dry and stand the brush knot down
