Semogue 1250 Shaving Brush pairs a 22mm boar knot with a tall ash handle, and the extra length keeps the weight low, so the brush stays planted rather than skating across a soap tin while you load.

A 22mm knot is the most generally useful size Semogue offers, equally happy whipping cream in a bowl or working a hard soap into the beard. Like all boar it gets better with every shave, and a couple of weeks of regular use is enough for the tips to soften and the brush to find its proper feel.

Ash is finished natural and matte rather than lacquered, so the grain stays visible and the handle keeps a soft, low sheen instead of the gloss of the painted models.

How to Use

• Wet the knot thoroughly in warm water and let it sit for two or three minutes
• Squeeze the bristles out until they are just damp
• Load from the soap, keeping the pressure light so the handle stays put
• Whip the lather up in a bowl or on the face, thinning it with water as you go
• Rinse, shake out and dry the handle as well as the knot
